If you have a boat of your own, you may launch from one of the lake’s marinas or any one of six public docks. No boat of your own? Whether you are seeking a pontoon boat for a relaxing day with family and friends, or something with a little more pep for skiing or wakeboarding, you will find just the right boat at one of the lake’s rental companies (see guide below).

For the aspiring sailor, SML Sailing School offers sailing classes and boat rentals. Or, for those not so interested in being a captain for the day, take a luncheon or dinner cruise on the Virginia Dare, Smith Mountain Lake’s premier luxury side-wheeler!

A day on the water is a must for any Smith Mountain Lake vacation. Make the most of it by taking a boat safety course before taking to the water.
