SML residents take pride in the beauty of the natural world that surrounds us here at home. Few places in the state offer such exquisite views without the isolation that usually goes hand in hand with rural living. That’s why each year lake residents work together in a mass cleanup effort of the lake and its shorelines.
This year’s Take Pride in Smith Mountain Lake Cleanup day will take place on May 5 from 8am to 4pm. All participants are given work gloves and heavyduty plastic bags, as well as a map of debris drop off points. Volunteers with barges and pontoon boats are needed for the cleanup as well, in order to remove debris from the lake itself. Participants are eligible for great door prizes, and winners will be announced on May 7.
